WHY MAP INFRASTRUCTURE?

By mapping the infrastructure in your community you are able to locate valves that need to be shut off in the event there is a leak. The lines in the ground need to be maintained annually to insure the system stays leak free. In order to maintain the water and sewer lines in your community it is important that those lines be mapped so that they can be easily accessed if need be. Many counties / cities have implemented a GIS department to make sure that the infrastructure's location is documented. GIS has and will continue to save government agencies millions of dollars every year in operational cost as well as material cost.
